It has been pointed out to me that tomorrow has been designated -- no doubt by some fellow geeks -- as "Pi day." Why?

It will be 3-14-15. Pi minute will be at 9:26. And pi second will be at 53.589793... seconds into pi minute.

A once in a century event!

I thought about an "e" day, but there is no February 71st. So Pi day it is!

Pie day makes more sense imo - much tastier and more nutritious.

I heard about pi day on the radio this morning giving credit to William Jones (of Anglesey, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Jo ... hematician)) for using the pi symbol.

Maybe in England Pi day should be 31st April '15?

As pi = natural log (-1)/i it could be a chance to honour e and i at the same time?
Maybe with a chocolate yule log? With natural ingredients.

That, unfortunately, means that we in the UK don't have a Pi day (since there are only 30 days in April --- unless we count the April-fool's day twice).

Or, we can take away May Day and turn it into April 31.

Not at all. I had a very busy week including traveling for business, so I simply have not had the time for anything related to physics. I am planning to write a reply to that but it is not an off-the-cuff thing. Jay
