Bell's EPR Paradox Paper

Postby FrediFizzx » Wed May 02, 2018 9:01 pm

Bell's paper "On the EPR Paradox" is now freely available directly from the journal Physics...

https://journals.aps.org/ppf/abstract/1 ... zika.1.195

In fact the whole journal is available for reading and download for free.

While we are on the subject of free papers, let me point you to the web site sci-hub.tw. They have a database of almost every scientific paper ever published, and it's all free. No registration required, you just enter your search. Best way to search is with a DOI. Whether it's legal to download these papers depends on the laws in your local jurisdiction. E.g., in Norway it's legal if it's for "personal use".

Of course they have lawyers from the publishing companies going after them, so they have to change the country suffix from time to time. Right now it's .tw.

Thanks for that but I would think it best to get the paper directly from the journal if possible. That way one can be sure it hasn't been altered.

Clearly. But people without access to a library subscription in general have to pay a criminal amount to get a paper directly from the journal. These guys (well, it's actually led by a woman) has harvested original pdf's from all the journals and are providing them for free. They are not altered in any way.

While it is an undeniable fact that Bell's paper linked by Fred is one of the most influential papers of the past century, let us not forget that his main argument in that paper is pure nonsense. He considers three incompatible experiments which cannot possibly be performed simultaneously in any possible world (classical or quantum), adds them together in a bizarre manner, and derives an unphysical result (i.e, an unphysical bound on a Boole-type inequality). It is then not at all surprising that that unphysical bound is not respected in any actual experiment. To see what I mean, have a look at Section IV B of my paper: http://philsci-archive.pitt.edu/14305/.

I agree with Fred here, we should not be promoting clearly criminal activity. Just because journals charge an arm and a leg does not mean it is okay to steal from them and give it away for free. I would advise anyone against downloading anything from such a website. Besides, you never know what else you'll be downloading alongside the articles.

A cleaner fully digitized copy of Bell's paper is free from the above link.
